Meet your Instructor
¡Hola! Soy Lauren. I have taught Spanish across a wide range of settings, from elementary school classrooms to university courses, private tutoring, and language immersion at home with my own children. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and a Bachelor’s degree in Spanish Language and Literature from the University of Colorado, as well as a Master’s degree in Teaching Spanish from Rutgers University. I am deeply passionate about language learning through community, interaction, and meaningful communication. Sí quieres hablar en español, ¡ven conmigo!
Language Learning through Conversation
Research shows that language is best learned through immersion and comprehensible input. This theory proposes that learners acquire language most effectively when they understand messages that are slightly above their current proficiency level (Krashen). I design my classroom so that Spanish is used approximately 90% of the time, allowing you and your classmates to immerse yourselves in contextualized language and meaningful conversation with me and your peers. Classes are capped at nine students so that we can get to know one another and build language skills through a strong sense of community.

This class builds on Spanish 101, with the goal of moving you from Novice Low to Novice Mid or Novice High on the ACTFL scale.
